In 2026, the race to control the House is powered by two waves - a redistricting wave with a small net gain for Republicans, coupled with a blue wave of overall enthusiasm for Democrats. There is a clear path for Dems to win. The strongest volunteer effort in just 18 battleground states will decide which Party gets to 218 seats and wins the majority.

What We Need To Do

With the current maps, Dems need to hold their 205 safe seats and four tossup seats. Republicans now hold 212 safe seats and have 14 tossups. To win, we need to hold our four tossups and flip nine of the 14 Republican tossups. In 2018, we flipped 72% of Republican tossups. This year, that performance would equate to 10 new seats and give us the House majority. Also, in a blue wave election, seats that lean Republican could flip. WE CAN DO THIS!

Options for Where to Work

To distribute volunteers most strategically, working in the race closest to you is best because you will have most credibility working with districts in your state. For us in El Dorado County, that means prioritizing our neighbors in the Central Valley in Districts 13 working for reelection of Adam Gray, and 22 working for Randy Villegas to unseat Republican David Valadao. We have strong volunteer outreach programs and years of experience coordinating high-impact action with our partners the Bay Area Coalition and CADEM, the California Democratic Party.

NOTE: The House Districts races that include or are closest to El Dorado County, 3, 6 & 7, are considered safe seats for Democrats after redistricting by Prop 50. Working for your favorite Democratic candidate in those districts (Ami Bera in 3, Richard Pan in 6, or either Doris Matsui or Mai Vang in 7) is your choice, but less critical to winning back the House than 13, 22, 45 and 48. District 5 incumbent Tom McClintock’s, challenger Michael Masuda, is considered a long-shot.

If you have connections and can travel to Districts 45 in Orange & LA Counties, or 48 in San Diego and Riverside Counties or want to phonebank or postcard to those districts, they are also priority districts.
